NEW SPORTS COMPLEX

One of our organization's biggest goals is to build, own, and operate a new sports complex in Columbus, Nebraska. This new complex will offer a wide variety of sports leagues, tournaments, camps and clinics, training time for local schools and club sports teams, and more.

Columbus still has a big need for additional indoor sports facilities. Currently, youth club sports teams are limited in available indoor practice space during the colder months, and our local schools could benefit from additional indoor space for practices and training as well. The community has limited sports options currently available during the Winter, and some of those programs are offered out of aging facilities that may not remain open much longer.

Meanwhile, other communities in the state have sufficient sports facilities that are able to meet their community's needs. These facilities give other communities a competitive advantage over Columbus sports teams by offering year-round sports leagues and training space.

It is our goal to design, build, own, and operate a new sports complex that will help level the playing field, all while helping grow participation in sports and other healthy and fun activities in our community. While our primary objective will be indoor sports facilities, we will also provide some additional reserved spaces for outdoor activities as well. Our vision for this facility is as follows:

  • Minimum 44,000 square foot indoor facility, expandable to over 100,000 square feet
  • Both artificial turf and hard court surfaces indoors
  • Additional outdoor fields and courts for year-round use
  • Indoor and outdoor batting cages
  • Space available for additional amenities and activities
  • Large parking lot when hosting larger events

These facilities are being designed and built to compliment existing facilities in the community, and all leagues and activities are being offered alongside, not in competition with, existing sports options. This facility will be self-sufficient, meaning that it will generate enough revenue to cover its entire cost of operations. Additional revenue raised through participation in our programs and activities will be used to establish and maintain a sports scholarship fund. This scholarship fund will be available to help cover the cost of registration in sports programming, not just at our facility, but throughout the community. Funds will also be available to help cover the cost of purchasing the necessary equipment to participate in a sports activity. We also hope to have funds available to refurbish, replace, and update equipment in churches, schools, parks, and elsewhere in the community as needed.

In additional to the general scholarship fund, the new sports complex will also have several built-in fundraisers for local organizations based upon their respective use of the facility. Click here to learn more about the charitable giving aspects of the Columbus Sports Foundation.
